ROSEBANK ROAD'S THREATENED POHUTUKAWA AND OAK
03 April 2010
These two trees on the edge of the development site opposite Mead Street, off Rosebank Road, in Avondale, Auckland, are safe, for now (see media release).
The developer of this 25 acre site, which is now to become a business park, wants to fell the Pohutukawa, and cut into the roots of the Oak, in order to build as much as possible around the Oak.
The Tree Council has stopped the felling of the Pohutukawa by taking an action in the High Court against the developer and Auckland City Council. An agreement was signed on March 18th that will mean that any further move to cut down the Pohutukawa will need public consultation.
The Tree Council would like both trees to be fully protected, and the area around them made into a ‘green’ area, for the public and employees to enjoy.
